Preliminary Teaser Trailer Evaluation

Before beginning the A2 film trailer task I created a practice sequence of footage, reflecting my variety of camera techniques and cinematic ideas. This trailer is a Anti-Bullying campaign style and is effective in communicating with the audiences emotions.

I edited the video myself on iMovie on the Apple MacBook.

This shot was intentionally at an angle that suggested a CCTV camera was in fact recording the events. Additionally by the altered colouring of the screen to green adds to this effect.

I used text to slowly appear over the footage revealing shocking statistics of bullying in schools in order to entice the audiences' attention. I chose red in order for the message to be bold and stand out effectively.

Additionally the added text of the time shown in the bottom left-hand corner adds to the effective CCTV effect showing a wide range of camera techniques and originality.

The ending sequence is perhaps the most shocking of the whole trailer. As there has been a clear build up of bullying scenes, for example being pushed and shoved in the hallway, the bullied teen rushes into the school toilets and slams the door. A close up of a fellow student is then shown to be knocking repeatedly with no answer. The camera then falls the ground level and the hanging feet of the girl appear revealing the shocking end to the trailer as a teen suicide. The non-diagetic music used was Gary Jules' 'Mad World' which purposely fades as soon as the death is revealed, leaving a melancholy atmosphere to the audience, however a significant message on teen bullying. The song was intentionally chosen due to the lyrics that infer loneliness and despair.

Mad World
Gary Jules
